CONNECTED, BUT ALONE? A VIDEO BY SHERRY TURKLE [AT THE BATTLE FRONT 102]

Brothers and sisters,

“The feeling that ‘no one is listening to me’ make us want to spend time with machines that seem to care about us… We’re letting (technology) take us places we don’t want to go…”

“..(O)ur fantasies of substitution have cost us…What technology makes easy is not always what nurtures the human spirit.”

The video is right below this short introduction.

And so cultural analyst and professor Sherry Turkle makes the effective case that we’re losing it…what is “it?” The fabric of human connection and the solitude needed to develop this God ordained holy activity that is the way He prescribed the advancement and completion of His Kingdom through His Lord Jesus.

Emails. Texts. Social Media. Avatars. Robot companions. Virtual reality. Customized lives. Rush. Rush. Rush. Hide. Hide. Hide.

This is not what God intended. As I say often, if Jesus Christ needed captured electricity to advance and complete His Kingdom, He would have come now.

There’s no indication Turkle is a Christian from this short 18 minute video presentation. Perhaps she is…but I do not in the least share her optimism at the end that this road has a silver lining. The Pandora’s box is fully open, and there’s no going back to smoke signals and the pony express…or even mitigating the onslaught of the new-newer-newest ways in diverting our attention from more eternal things.

Notice the four young children above in the picture are outside at a campground with God’s inviting and mighty creation surrounding them…it reminds me of the story of the young people in the beautiful mountains of Colorado at a ski resort and watching skiing on the cable TV.

Our arch enemy and nemesis Satan is having a field day. He is, we must remember, and by God’s decree, the prince of the power of the air. He’s a supernatural genius, and knows exactly what he’s doing as he roams the earth seeking whom to devour. Will you, your kids, your family be one of his victims? No? Then what strategies are you employing on a daily basis to both expose and counteract his schemes?

This is a message for all of us in the world of affluence that affords digital connection. We can’t afford to ignore this. There’s way too much at stake.

Some of her quotes from this message follow on this post below the video screen, then her bio, and finally the full transcript.

So, after watching this and reflecting, what will you do to stem this tsunami? Let me know so we can collaborate.

And now, Sherry Turkle’s cryptic and marvelous expose of being “connected, but alone”… Read the rest of this entry »

THESE WILL GO AWAY INTO ETERNAL PUNISHMENT [FRIDAY FIRE 86]

These days we see many leaders writing and speaking about hell…and the lake of fire. There’s a growing list of good men who are saints of God who now proclaim that unbelievers are thrown into the lake of fire but then after some punishment, are annihilated. That is, burned up and extinguished. They quote many passages in the Old and New Testament that use terminology of this type.

So, from my watching their teaching, they seem to mean a temporary punishment, that is, punishment that lasts for a while. In some cases, they seem to mean a short while. In most cases, they never declare how temporary it might be in their opinion.

Few of us can imagine a loving God that would punish, that is, torment human beings forever and ever. But…God is not like us in many ways. We are created in His image we know, but still many of His attributes and their intensity are all together unlike us.

In Matthew 25 in the parable of the sheep and goats, people are separated based on their Read the rest of this entry »

MY WAYS ARE NOT YOUR WAYS – HUMANS CAN’T AFFORD TO GET THIS WRONG – A SHORT VIDEO [AT THE BATTLE FRONT 101]

Brothers and sisters,

The Creator God is so high, so lofty, so humble, so loving, so merciful, and even so wrathful and angry that we humans, His crowning achievement as His bride, can never know Him completely on this side on heaven.

Yet, as He chooses to live in the hearts of creatures that still sin, we look through a glass darkly as we gain more and more insight into His heart…and His terrible wrath.

Certain messages from the brethren resonate in ways few do, and this is one of them. Our brother Francis Chen seeks to describe the indescribable in this short video…

…if God, the infinite God who hides oak trees in acorns, who turns drunken, drug invested rapists into tender, tear stained evangelists, who places more molecules in one glass of water than all the grains of sand on all the earth’s beaches…

…if this God chooses to create a place so magnificent as heaven, can He not create a place of eternal torment and pain for those arrogant creatures that blatantly resisted His free gift that cost this other worldly God His very Son’s torture, murder and ultimate degrading humiliation on that tree?

IN GOD, WHOSE WORD I PRAISE [FRIDAY FIRE 85]

The majority of the Psalms are lamentations much to the dismay of the always-be-positive New Age influenced immature believers in God’s church today. After the Philistines seized him in Gath, David penned this song, Psalm 56, as an individual lament…boy, can I relate…maybe you too.

Towards the end, he declares:

In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?

The Word of God. He praised It. David loved and cherished the Word of God…and the Word became flesh and tablernacled among us mere humans.

In this current day when this piece of mine here is written, we have the wholesale degradation of God’s precious, costly, preserved Word. People in the west, those good people in God’s assemblies who are deceived, who have more Bibles and tools to correcting handle (exegesis = interpretation of the ‘then and there’), ignore His Word by almost never reading or diligently handling the word of truth to show themselves approved. Paul, in 1 Cor. 9.27, warned he bruised his body continuously so he, the mighty apostle Paul, would never walk away from the faith only to be disapproved and cast into the lake of fire for eternity.

Very, very scary stuff.

We heard of a leader in the church, considered an elder too most likely, who claimed he was “too busy” to spend time in God’s Word. And his ministry reflects that fact in his life and the life of those who have accumulated him to themselves for teaching according to their desires (2 Tim. 4.3).

Too busy for God’s Word? God help us…

So…do we praise God’s Word? Do we praise the LORD’s Word? Do we live the Word? Do we prophesy and teach the Word?

Or just a false mis-identified, unholy, high-five, fist bump buddy we call Jesus divorced from His holy, provocative, life changing, dangerously convicting Word?

EVANGULLIBLE: SO-CALLED CHRISTIANS & THEIR LEADERS WHO ARE EASILY TRICKED [AT THE BATTLE FRONT 100]

Brothers and sisters,

More provoking modern day definitions…

EVANGULLIBLE [ee-van guhl’-uh-buhl]

[Evangelical: 1525–35;  < Late Latin evangelicus  (< Late Greek euangelikós; see evangel1 , -ic) + -al1]  [Gullible: easily taken in or tricked; earlier cullibility, probably connected to gull, a cant term for "dupe, sucker.” It is perhaps from the bird (see gull (n.), or from verb gull "to swallow" (1530, from O.Fr. goule, from L. gula "throat.")]

  1. Evangelicals easily tricked by teachers/teachings that seem to be biblical but are not.
  2. Evangelicals who are too credulous, unwary, vulnerable, trusting and naïve, lacking in basic biblical discernment, especially when it comes to discerning wolves in sheep’s clothing and noticing that there are leaders who talk out of both sides of their mouths (Matt. 7:15).
  3. Evangelicals who are beguiled by the subtleties of the serpent, whose minds are Read the rest of this entry »
