Years ago, while listening to Chuck Swindoll the well known Bible teacher from Insight For Living, I heard him tell a story of a talk he had with his sister Luci.
She asked him, “Chuck, was is your favorite emotion?” After a bit of reflection, he responded, “Achievement!” A typical male response I suppose…you know, accomplishment, success, recognition, etc.
Next, Chuck asked Luci for her favorite emotion. “Relief,” she quickly replied. Of course, Chuck then noted in finishing his story that day coming from my family room radio.
Isn’t that what we all want?
Dear Christian saint, whatever valley you face today, God has planned relief for those of us who love Him enough to persevere. To fight the good fight. To overcome…
What is it that you face? Desperate health problems? Irreconcilable family members? A continual disrespectful wife? A harsh husband who’s AWOL? A prodigal child? Financial difficulty to the point of ruin? Betrayal from your closest confidants? A God that seems too distant and remote?
For some, it may be all these issues…
But..God is for you. How many times in the past has He swept down at the 12th hour? In the nick of time? A hand out of nowhere that said once again Satan would not win?
And even if we give our bodies to be burned with love some day soon, isn’t crossing our Jordan River give us that sweet relief?! Ah yes, the smile of our Jesus Christ, King of kings…
“Lord God Jesus, we praise You for the human emotion of relief. Thank you for the promise of full relief when we see You…as You are in full and prefect majesty, the grace of our Father. Your kingdom come.”
